Best Sword Team: Grookey Chosen

Sword and Shield, like other duo games, have exclusives between each game. However, these games are the first to introduce different gym leaders based on your version. Half of the sets of gym leaders are version exclusives, but only two of those sets have a different main typing. That being said, there are six different teams you can use based on which version you’re playing and which starter you chose.

The first gym leader will be Milo, who specializes in Grass types. Grookey will resist Grass type moves, but Milo’s Gossifleur and Eldegoss will resist its moves as well. For this gym, it’d be wise to get a Cutiefly on Route 4. Grookey can take care of Nessa, the second gym leader, easily. You can get a Binacle in Galar Mine No. 2, which can be used for Kabu, the third gym leader. In Sword, you will fight Bea, a Fighting type user. Use Cutiefly for her. On Route 6, you can find a number of Ground types such as Yamask, Trapinch, Sillicobra, Dugtrio, and Hippopotas. Use any of these and a Skorupi for Opal, the fifth gym leader. Binacle can be used for her Togekiss, Skorupi can be used for Alcremie, and the Ground type of your choice can be used for Mawile and Weezing. You can use Grookey for Gordie, the sixth gym leader, but use Binacle for his Shuckle and your Ground type for his Coalossal. For Piers, the seventh gym leader, use your Ground type for his Skuntank and Cutiefly for everything else. Get a Glalie on Route 9 for your final Pokemon. For Raihan, use Binacle for his Gigalith, Grookey for his Sandaconda, your Ground type for his Duraladon, and Glalie for his Flygon.
