Kubfu and Urshifu

In the Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield Armor of Isle DLC, you can get a legendary Pokemon known as Kubfu. It is a pure Fighting type capable of evolving, which makes it the fourth Pokemon capable of doing so (Cosmog, Cosmoem, and Type: Null). Kubfu can evolve into a Pokemon known as Urshifu, but its secondary typing is dependent on how you evolve it. On the Isle of Armor there are two towers known as the Tower of Waters and Tower of Darkness. As the names would suggest, bringing Kubfu to the Tower of Waters will cause Urshifu to be a Fighting/Water type, whereas bringing it to the Tower of Darkness will cause Urshifu to be a Fighting/Dark type. Another difference between those two forms is the move they learn upon leveling up. The Water Urshifu, otherwise known as the Rapid Strike Style, gets a move called Surging Strikes. This is a physical water move with base 25 power, but it will hit 3 times unless the opponent faints before you land the 3rd hit. In addition, each hit will be a critical hit, unless the opponent is immune to critical hits. The abilities Shell Armor and Battle Armor prevent critical hits, as well as if the opponent is under the effects of a move called Lucky Chant. The Cubone line (excluding Alolan Marowak) can get Battle Armor as a hidden ability, while the Skorupi line, Falinks, Type: Null, and Perrserker can have it as a regular ability. Torkoal can get Shell Armor as hidden ability, while the Shellder line, Krabby line, Corphish line, Dwebble line, the Chewtle line, Turtonator, Shelmet, Escavalier, and Lapras have it as a regular ability. It also will not work against Pokemon immune to Water moves, such as those with Dry Skin, Storm Drain, or Water Absorb. Similarly, the Dark Urshifu, otherwise known as the Single Strike Style, gets a move known as Wicked Blow. It is a physical Dark type move with a power of 80, but it always land in a critical hit unless the opponent is immune. A minor difference is that Dark Urshifu has access to Sucker Punch, whereas Water Urshifu has access to Aqua Jet instead. Both of these moves have increased priority, but the way they function is different. Sucker Punch has 70 base power, but it only works if the opponent was going to using an attacking move and outspeed. Aqua Jet only has 40 base power but it always activates first unless the opponent uses an increased priority move or uses one with the same priority but has a higher speed.

The towers have trainers in them that use types the same as the secondary typing of the Urshifu for that tower. The Tower of Water has a trainer with a Psyduck, one with a Krabby, one with a Marill, and one with a Poliwhirl, with a man named Mustard at the top who has a Kubfu of his own. The Tower of Darkness has a trainer with a Zorua, one with a Scraggy, one with an Inkay, and one with a Krokorok, also with Mustard at the top with a Kubfu. The levels of the Pokemon are dependent on whether you’ve defeated the champion or not. The Pokemon pre-champion will be from levels 23 to 30, while the ones post-champion will be from levels 65 to 70. Once you defeat Mustard, you will gain the ability to evolve Kubfu in the form you’ve chosen. However, once you choose your form, it is irreversible. Even if you get another Kubfu from another save file, they will not allow you to evolve it.
