Honedge is a melee all-rounder. Its basic attack is not boosted every third use, but there is a boost count that, when it reaches one, will cause it to deal increased damage and have a special effect (but only for Aegislash). Every boosted attack decreases the boost count by one. It has a choice of two moves, Shadow Sneak and Iron Defense. The first deals damage to any opponent in its path. After it has travelled the maximum distance or hit an opponent, the user will warp there. The other gives the user a shield that can completely nullify the damage from one attack. Both of these moves add one to the boost count. At level 5, Honedge evolves into Doublade and replaces Shadow Sneak with either Sacred Sword or Shadow Claw. The first creates an area that will erupt shortly afterwards. If opponents step into this area, they will take damage and be thrown. This increases the boost count for every opponent hit, but it can only increase up to a maximum of two for hitting wild Pokemon. After the eruption, Doublade will also deal a follow-up attack to anyone in front of it. The other attacks three times, with the final hit dealing the most and throwing the opponent. This move will raise the boost count by one if hits at least once. At level 7, Doublade evolves into Aegislash. Aegislash has a blade form and a shield form that can be changed when using certain moves. While in blade form, Aegislash will be faster and hit harder. Its boosted attack will also deal more damage. While in shield form, its defense and special defense are higher. Its basic attack will deal the same amount of damage as Doublade’s, but it leaves opponents unable to act for a short period of time. These boosted attacks also restores the HP and cooldown of Shadow Claw or Sacred Sword every time it lands. At level 8, Iron Defense gets replaced with either Iron Head or Wide Guard. The first deals damage but also grants a shield that can completely nullify the damage from one attack, although not hindrances. If the shield is broken, the boost count goes up by one. The other doesn’t deal damage, but it grants a boost point and shoves opponents away, similar to Snorlax’s Block. Every time Aegislash is hit by a move with this active, it can get up to two more boost points. At level 9, Aegislash learns its Unite Move Coup de Grace. This deals massive damage to anyone in its path, and it deals more damage the lower the opponent’s HP. For every opponent knocked out by this move, the boost count increases by one. At level 11, Sacred Sword will increase Aegislash’s attack for a short period of time if the eruption hits an opponent, and Shadow Claw boosts the critical hit ratio of all moves except for its Unite Move for a short period of time. At level 13, Iron Head will increase Aegislash’s attack for a short period of time if the shield is broken, and Wide Guard will have a shorter cooldown. Honedge and Doublade’s ability increases the amount of damage dealt to opponents, but also the amount of damage dealt to it.
