Kubfu is a melee all-rounder, whose basic attack will be boosted every third use. It has a choice of two moves, Rock Smash or Headbutt. The first can be charged before using, although doing so for too long will cancel the move. The longer it’s charged, the more damage is dealt. Additionally, Kubfu takes reduced damage while charging. The other is a dash move that incapacitate opponents. At level 5, Rock Smash gets replaced with either Surging Strikes (evolving it into Rapid Strikes Urshifu) or Wicked Blow (evolving it into Single Strike Urshifu). The first can be used up to three times, and the third hit will be guaranteed to be a critical, and will throw the opponent. Additionally, the next basic attack will be boosted, and will restore the user’s HP. The other is an upgraded version of Rock Smash; it can be charged, and while doing so, Urshifu takes reduced damage and is immune to hindrances, although its movement speed is decreased. Additionally, charging it for long enough widens the range. This move deals more damage the lower the opponent’s HP is, and if they’re in the center of the blow, it will be a critical hit, and they’ll be shoved. Similar to Surging Strikes, the next basic attack will be boosted, but Urshifu will not restore HP after using it. Urshifu’s basic attack will be boosted every third use, but Rapid Strikes’ deals more damage and reduces its move cooldowns, while Single Strike’s is granted a shield. Rapid Strikes will learn Liquidation at level 7, replacing Headbutt; this move lowers the defense of opponents around Urshifu, and it’ll get a shield with a durability proportional to the amount of Pokemon hit. Otherwise, it will learn Throat Chop, which is an upgraded version of Headbutt, with the additional effect of guaranteeing the next basic attack is boosted. If Liquidation was learned, at level 9, Urshifu will learn its Unite Move Flowing Fists, which is an area of effect attack that shoves opponents. Urshifu will also have increased movement speed and reduced cooldowns for its moves. This move can be used again to throw five consecutive punches, although this can be increased up to ten for every three times Urshifu hits an opponent while this move is active. Otherwise, it’ll learn Ebon Fist. A direction can designated for this move, in which case, a chosen opponent will be shoved that way; if not, the opponent will be thrown into the air, and left unable to act after it lands. This move also resets Wicked Blow’s cooldown. At level 11, Urshifu will take reduced damage while using Surging Strikes, and the same goes for Wicked Blow, as well as incapacitating opponents hit in the center. At level 13, Liquidation’s cooldown of ten seconds will be reduced to nine, and Throat Chop will have a reduced cooldown every time Wicked Blow hits. Kubfu’s ability is Inner Focus, which reduces the duration of hindrances on it, while Urshifu’s is Unseen Fist, which partially ignores shields.
