Ladies and gentlemen, we have gotten some more news about Sun and Moon. Not only was there much of it, but there are some interesting new facts that we got.
The first new interesting fact is that there are certain Pokemon from other regions (Kanto only, so far) that are different when they are in the Alola Region. Confused?
They introduced five Kanto-native Pokemon that are different in the Alola Region. The first one is Exeggutor. If you don’t know what an Exeggutor is, it is a Grass/Psychic type that evolves from Exeggcute when it is given a Leaf Stone. It has the regular ability Chlorophyll and the hidden ability Harvest. However, that is the Kanto Exeggutor. The Alola Exeggutor is different, as it is a Grass/Dragon type and has the ability Frisk.
Exeggutor’s not the only Pokemon with a different Alola form. Vulpix becomes an Ice type and Ninetales becomes an Ice/Fairy type. They both have Snow Cloak. Sandshrew and Sandslash get different forms as well, both becoming Ice/Steel types also with the ability Snow Cloak.
This wouldn’t be too exciting on its own, but it’s possible that there are other Pokemon with different Alola forms. This might also be a new implementation in future Pokemon games.
This next fact it’s terribly interesting, but it’s still pretty cool. There were a few new Pokemon in the Alola region revealed. One of them is called Oricorio, and it can have a different type based on where it is found. The Baile style is Fire/Flying, the Pom-Pom is Electric/Flying, the Pa’u is Psychic/Flying, and the Sensu is Ghost/Flying. It has a new move called Revelation Dance which is whatever primary type Oricorio is. Also, it has a new ability called Dancer, which will copy any Dance move used by the opponent (Tierno would love this Pokemon).
The next Pokemon is called Minior, the Meteor Pokemon. It is a Rock/Flying Pokemon with the new ability Shields Down, which protects against status conditions and gives Minior high defense until it reaches half health (similar to the ability Defeatist).
Next, we learned about Fomatis, the Sickle Grass Pokemon. It is a pure Grass type with the ability Leaf Guard. It evolves into Lurantis, the Bloom Sickle Pokemon. Lurantis is able to learn a new move called Solar Blade.
We also learned about Yungoos’s evolution, which is called Gumshoos, and Mudsdale’s pre-evolution, which is called Mudbray. Gumshoos is also a totem Pokemon, which can call other Pokemon for help.
Next, we learned about how the professor has a rite of passage called the Island Challenge, where you must go to each island and complete some task there. Each island has a specialty type as well as a trial captain. There is a Grass island, and the trial captain for that is called Mallow. There are also Water, Electric, and Fire islands, where the trial captains are called Lana, Sophocles, and Kiawe, respectively. After you complete each of their tasks, you can battle the kahunas. The kahuna for Melemele Island is called Hala.
Finally, there are a new kind of moves. They are called Z-Moves. They are powerful, but can only be used once per battle. The Electric Z-move is called Gigavolt Havoc, while the Grass Z-move, Fire Z-move, and Water Z-move are called Bloom Doom, Inferno Overdrive, and Hydro Vortex, respectively.
