I know I’m a few days late on this. My Internet has been down for the past few days.
We were introduced to six new Pokemon (well, technically, four, as we had already seen two of these Pokemon before, but we did not know much about them).
The first one is called Bewear, the Strong Arm Pokemon. It is a Normal/Fighting type with either the ability Klutz or the new ability Fluffy. Fluffy is similar to Fur Coat, as it halves the damage from certain types of moves. Fur Coat halves the damage dealt by physical moves, such as Earthquake or Rock Slide, while Fluffy halves the damage dealt by direct contact moves, such as Tackle or Draining Kiss. However, one downside of Fluffy is that it takes double damage from Fire type moves. So, Bewear can be weak to Flying, Psychic, Fairy, and Fighting due to its typing and Fire as well if it has Fluffy. Klutz prevents the Pokemon from using items, which is good if your opponent is trying to give you a bad item such as a Toxic Orb or Flame Orb. However, in most cases, it is useless. In fact, it may even prevent your strategy from working, since it cannot use any good held items.
The second one is called Mimikyu, the Disguise Pokemon. It is a Ghost/Fairy type, which is currently a unique typing. Its ability is Disguise, which allows it to take one hit without taking any damage. Its appearance then changes.
The third one is called Wimpod, the Turn Tail Pokemon. It is a Bug/Water type, just like Surskit. It has a new ability called Wimp Out, which allows the Pokemon to switch out or flee if its health drops below 50%. This ability would be difficult to use strategically.
The fourth one is called Bounsweet, the Fruit Pokemon. It is a pure Grass type with either the ability Leaf Guard or Oblivious. This Pokemon could be a useful Grass type, even though its abilities aren’t the most useful. Leaf Guard is good if you have a sun based team and the opponent is trying to put status conditions on you and Oblivious is good if your opponent is trying to infatuate you.
The fifth one is called Comfey, the Posy Picker Pokemon. It is a pure Fairy type Pokemon with either the ability Flower Veil or the new ability Triage. Triage can be useful if you are trying to stall your opponent, as it gives healing moves such as Synthesis and Recover the highest priority. Flower Veil is only useful in double battles. Even then, it is only useful if you have Grass type allies and your opponent is trying to lower their stats.
The sixth one is called Mudsdale, the Draft Horse Pokemon. It is a pure Ground type Pokemon with either the ability Own Tempo or the new ability Stamina. Stamina raises the defending Pokemon’s Defense one stage whenever it gets hit with an attack. This ability could be devastating to an opponent who only has physical attacks. Its other ability can also be useful if your opponent is trying to confuse you. It would be nice if Mudsdale could have Thrash as a move.
