Pokemon Sun and Moon: Turtonator

Last time I did a post on just one new Pokemon in Sun and Moon, it was rather interesting. Not to say that this post isn’t about a new and interesting Pokemon in Sun and Moon, but I personally don’t find it to be that interesting. Nonetheless, let’s talk about this new Pokemon.

Turtonator, the Blast Turtle Pokemon, is a Fire/Dragon type with the ability Shell Armor. The reason this Pokemon isn’t terribly interesting is because we already know a Dragon type in the Alola region (although it is part Normal type instead of part Fire type). Also, not only is Shell Armor a somewhat useless ability, there are already 14 or so Pokemon that have Shell Armor (Shell Armor is good if your opponent is using moves with high critical hit ratios, as it prevents critical hits from occurring on the Pokemon that has this ability). In addition, technically we already have a few Fire/Dragon types, but most of them are either legendary Pokemon or Mega Evolutions. I guess it’s nice to have a Pokemon where you can easily get multiple of them.

However, this Pokemon does have a new and unique move called Shell Trap. It’s similar to Counter, but it seems to have more priority than it.

Do you like Turtonator? Why or why not?
