Bowser, otherwise known as the King of Koopas, is making his third appearance in the Smash Bros series. Currently the heaviest character in the Smash Bros series, he can be a real threat: he takes less damage and deals more. However, he is easier to hit and it is harder for him to recover. However, Bowser can still pack quite a punch. I will be analyzing his first set of special moves.
His neutral special is Fire Breath. This move can:
- Instantly detonate a Blast Box
- Be pocketed, reflected, or absorbed
In addition, this move can also be angled. This move gradually gets weaker as it is being used, both in power and range. If you have used up all of Bowser’s breath, it will take about 10 seconds before he can breath fire at its highest power and largest range.
His side special is the Flying Slam. This deals about 18% damage. However, for this move to land, the user has to be close enough to the opponent. Otherwise, the move deals no damage. Where you land after you grab the opponent can be altered by inputting a direction.
His up special is the Whirling Fortress. This move deals varying amounts of damage and acts differently when used on the ground or the air. When on the ground, Bowser does not rise into the air. However, he can slide left and right until the move is finished. In the air, this move lasts a few seconds, but does not lift Bowser very high.
His down special is Bowser Bomb. This move also works a bit different when used on the ground or in the air. When used on the ground, Bowser will do a lightning fast hop into the air, dealing about 4% damage to anyone who got hit. Bowser will then land quickly, and anyone who gets caught underneath him will take about 20% damage. When he lands, anyone close to where he lands will take about 11% damage. In the air, the hop does not occur. This move can deal a lot of damage and launch opponents, but leaves you wide open. Also, it will kill you instantly if you used this over the edge. However, if you are extremely close to the edge when you use this, Bowser will grab on.
