Espurr, otherwise known as the Restraint Pokemon (I’ll explain why later), is a unique Pokemon. This Pokemon has no gender differences, but it has gender differences when it evolves into at level 25. I’m not just talking about appearances; this Pokemon has a different moveset and hidden ability based on its gender. Meowstic, the Constraint Pokemon, can be used in two different ways based on its gender.
The blue one is the male one and it’s more of a support Pokemon. His moveset is as follows:

So, when should you use which one? If you don’t plan on using Meowstic to attack, then use the male one. It can provide support to your other Pokemon with moves such as Reflect, Light Screen, and Misty Terrain. If you do plan on using Meowstic to attack, then use the female one. It can sweep opponents with its Psychic. It can also harm Dark types with Signal Beam and Ghost types with Shadow Ball or Sucker Punch.
As for hidden abilities, normally Espurr will have Own Tempo as its hidden ability. If you don’t want to get confused, you may want to stick with one. However, like almost all evolutions, Meowstic is stronger than Espurr. Male Meowstic have Prankster, which allows their status moves to have increased priority over other moves. Female Meowstic have Competitive. In my opinion, it’s a somewhat useless ability. It can be useful in some situations, however (For those of you who don’t know, Competitive raises your Special Attack two stages when one of your other stats goes down). For instance, if there’s a Sticky Web as an entry hazard around your Pokemon, you can use this to raise your Meowstic’s Special Attack two stages from the get-go. However, you will be slower, so be prepared to withstand an attack. This is nice and all, but should you use Meowstic?
Espurr is one of the earliest wild Psychic types you can get in the game. You can get Abra as a Psychic type before Espurr, and those are only useful if they evolve or have TMs used on them. If you did not catch a Ralts on Route 4, or don’t like Fairy type Pokemon, I would suggest getting an Espurr. It’s one of the most versatile Pokemon out there.
Note: Why is Espurr the Restraint Pokemon? Its Pokedex entries read as:
The organ that emits its intense psychic power is sheltered by its ears to keep power from leaking out. It has enough psychic energy to blast everything within 300 feet of itself, but it has no control over its power.
If you still don’t get it, basically, this thing’s ears are protecting it from blasting everything within a 300 foot radius. It would not be able to control this power on its own without its ears. So, yeah.
In a similar way, Meowstic is the Constraint Pokemon because its Pokedex entries read as:
When in danger, it raises its ears and releases enough psychic power to grind a 10-ton truck to dust. The eyeball patterns on the interior of its ears emit psychic energy. It keeps the patterns tightly covered because that power is too immense.
10 tons. 10 FREAKING tons. You’re telling me this thing can destroy 20,000 pounds? Someone who owns one of these is either ignorant, doesn’t know about it, or is brave.
What is your favorite Meowstic?
