Pokemon Sun and Moon News (Part 1)

Hello everyone. As you probably already know, the newest Pokemon games were announced a few months ago. These games are called Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. We haven’t had much information about these games, besides the names, the icons, and a Pokemon called Magearna. Magearna was a Pokemon that was released a few days before Sun and Moon were announced, and it has something to do with the Pokemon Volcanion. Volcanion is the last Pokemon in the Kalos Dex, and it seems to have much more importance than the other two Event Pokemon released in that generation. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the other two are not awesome. I mean, Diancie is a diamond making machine, and Hoopa can practically go wherever it wants to in the blink of an eye. But Volcanion seems to have much more importance than those two. It’s strange, though, as Volcanion doesn’t really look that important. It’s powerful, certainly, since it’s able to blow away a mountain with steam. But, it doesn’t look terribly important. Anyway, this Pokemon will debut in the 19th Pokemon movie, set to be released in Japan on July 16th. The released date for everywhere else is currently unknown, but it’s supposed to be released this year.

It’s safe to assume Magearna is a 7th Generation Pokemon, as something like this has been done before. Zoroark was revealed in the fourth generation Pokemon movie Zoroark-Master of Illusions, despite being a fifth generation Pokemon. All we know about Magearna is that it is the Artificial Pokemon and is a Steel/Fairy type. We also know its weight and height, but that’s not incredibly important. Additionally, we know it was created 500 years ago by humans and is a Mythical Pokemon.

For a few months, we did not have much to go on. That is, we did, until today. A trailer was released a few hours ago and talks more about the games. The region is called Alola, and is based on Hawaii. We have the lineup of Grass, Fire and Water type Starters as well. They all have their regular abilities of Overgrow, Blaze, and Torrent as well.

The Grass Pokemon is known as Rowlet, and is the Grass Quill Pokemon. It’s a Grass/Flying type. Here’s a description of this Pokemon.

“Rowlet can attack without making a sound! It flies silently through the skies, drawing near to its opponent without being noticed, and then lashing out with powerful kicks. It can also attack from a distance using the razor-sharp leaves that form part of its feathers.
Its visual abilities are impressive. The darkness of night is no obstacle to Rowlet! It can twist its neck nearly 180° from front to back so it can see directly behind itself. It has a habit of turning its head in battle to face its Trainer and receive instructions. The move Leafage attacks an opponent by striking it with leaves. Rowlet knows this move from the moment it becomes your partner!”

The fact that this Pokemon can fly, kick powerfully, has feathers, can see at night, and twist its neck 180 degrees probably means that this Pokemon is a grassy owl. Plus, its name even has the word “Owl” in it.

The Fire Pokemon is known as Litten, and is the Fire Cat Pokemon. It’s a pure Fire type. Here’s a description of this Pokemon:

“Logical but also passionate, Litten always remains coolheaded and doesn’t show its emotions on the surface.
Litten can attack with flaming hairballs! Its fur is rich in oils and immensely flammable. Litten grooms itself by licking its fur, and then uses the collected fur as fuel for fireball attacks! When the time comes for Litten to shed its old fur, it all burns up in a glorious blaze. The move Ember attacks an opponent by firing a small flame at it. Litten knows this move from the moment it becomes your partner!”

Obviously, this Pokemon is a cat. For one thing, that’s it species. It’s also logical, passionate, coolheaded, doesn’t show emotions, attacks with flaming hairballs, has flammable fur rich in oils, grooms itself by licking itself, and sheds, which are all characteristics of domestic cats.

The Water Pokemon is known Popplio, and is known as the Sea Lion Pokemon. It’s a pure Water type. Here’s a description of this Pokemon:

“Popplio’s swimming speed is known to exceed 25 mph. It’s better at moving in the water than on land. Still, when it’s on land, it takes advantage of the elasticity of its balloons to perform acrobatic stunts and jumps.
Popplio can snort out balloons made of water! Watch it spin water balloons into a playful battle strategy! Both frivolous and hard-working, Popplio can easily get carried away—unleashing enough power in battle to make quite a spectacle! But Popplio’s determined spirit means it can usually be found practicing hard on its balloon skills. The Water Gun move attacks an opponent by firing a jet of water. Popplio knows this move from the moment it becomes your partner!”

Even more obviously, this Pokemon is a Sea Lion. It can travel in water but also on land, performs acrobatic stunts and jumps, is playful, frivolous, hard-working, and determined. These are characteristics of sea lions you might see at an aquarium.

The legendaries for Sun and Moon were also revealed. We don’t know their species, typings, moves, heights, weights, or abilities. All we have is their pictures for now.

Although these are the only known Pokemon, in the original trailer, we saw a wireframe of a bird. This is most likely the generic bird for this generation. We know next to nothing about this Pokemon, however.
