Pokemon Sun and Moon News (Part 4)

We have gotten more news about Sun and Moon. Here’s the Pokemon that we learned about:

Tapu Koko is an Electric/Fairy type Pokemon. However, it’s not just another Dedenne. We actually learned something rather interesting about this Pokemon. In a previous post, I stated that there are five islands in the Alola Region, one of which is an artificial island. I then hinted at the fact that Magearna was somehow related to that island. We now know that each island has a guardian. Tapu Koko is the guardian of one of the islands, known as the Melemele (which means “yellow” in Hawaiian) Island. This may mean that it is a mythical Pokemon. Anyways, Tapu Koko, the Land Spirit Pokemon, has a new ability known as Electric Surge. This ability is similar to Drizzle or Drought, as any Pokemon that has it activates Electric Terrain when it is sent out. Electric Terrain has a few effects:

  • Prevents Pokemon from falling asleep
  • Raises the damage done by Electric moves by 50%
  • Nature Power becomes Thunderbolt
  • Secret Power can cause paralysis
  • Camouflage causes the user’s type to change to Electric

This Pokemon would be useful if you had an Electric type Pokemon on your team. Before today, we had no information on any confirmed Electric types in the Alola Region.

But today, we now know that Grubbin’s evolutions are part Electric type. Charjabug, the Battery Pokemon, also has a new ability known as Battery (-.-) which raises the Special Attack(s) of any allies on the field. Charjabug’s evolution, Vikabolt, is also Bug/Electric. But, it has the ability Levitate (why do each of Grubbin’s evolutions have a different ability?). Although these Pokemon are similar to Joltik and Galvantula, it’s nice to have an Electric type on your team, especially if your partner has Popplio. Plus, these are the only confirmed Electric types in Alola as of now.

Another new Pokemon we learned about is named Drampa, the Placid Pokemon. It is a Normal/Dragon type that can have the ability Sap Sipper as well as another new ability known as Berserk, which raises Drampa’s Special Attack by .5 when its HP is 50% or below. We also know that this Pokemon can have Dragon Breath as a move, and it would be wise to have other Special Attack moves on this Pokemon.

Yet another new Pokemon we learned about is named Bruxish, the Gnash Teeth Pokemon. It is a Water/Psychic that can have the ability Strong Jaw or yet another new ability known as Dazzling, which prevents moves with a higher priority from hitting. Although we don’t know what Strong Jaw related moves that this Pokemon has, it would be useful to use this Pokemon against any Pokemon with Prankster, as its Dazzling ability would essentially make Prankster useless.

We also got what I can only assume is the Pikachu Pokemon for this generation: Togedemaru. This Pokemon has a striking resemblance to Pikachu plus it is part Electric type (it is an Electric/Steel type). Anyways, Togedemaru is the Roly-Poly Pokemon and can have the ability Iron Barbs or Lightning Rod.

The last revealed Pokemon is Cutiefly, the Bee Fly Pokemon, is a Bug/Fairy type with the ability Honey Gather and Shield Dust. There’s not much to be said about this Pokemon, but it is worth noting that this is the second Pokemon with Honey Gather (the other being Combee) so this might be useful if you like Honey for whatever reason. Also, it is a unique type combination.

We also got Iwanko and Nekkoala’s English names. They are known as Rockruff and Komala, respectively. Rockruff is a Rock type and Komala is a Normal type. Also, Komala’s ability is not called Definite Sleep; it is instead called Comatose. However, it still has the same effect as before.

What do you think of Tapu Koko?
