Pokemon Sun and Moon: Sneasel/Weavile

Sneasel, the Sharp Claw Pokemon, was a Pokemon first introduced in Generation 2. It is the only Dark/Ice type besides its evolution. If you didn’t already have a Dark or Ice type by the time you reached Blackthorn City, it would have been in your best interest to catch one because it would be good against Clair and Will. It was also available in LeafGreen, although only post-game. It was of course available in HeartGold and SoulSilver, but it was also available in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum around Snowpoint City. It wasn’t as useful, as it was only useful against Bertha and Lucian. In addition, it was also available in Black and White and Black 2 and White 2, but it was only available post-game for Black and White. It became more useful again, as the Champion, Iris, as well as two of the Elite Four, Shauntul and Caitlin. In X and Y, it was available in Route 17, which is the earliest it is available in any game. This is a good Pokemon to use against Olympia, as well as Drasna. Now, Sneasel is available in Sun and Moon as well. How useful is it?

You can find Sneasel only on Mount Lanakila, which means you can only get it just before the Elite Four. It would be a good Pokemon to use for Acerola, considering you didn’t already have a Dark type on your team. It would also work for most of Kahili’s Pokemon. Oricorio and Skarmory might give you some problems though. It would also work the Champion’s Decidueye (if you chose Popplio) and his Braviary. Although Weavile is a powerful Pokemon, it doesn’t do very well against Fighting types. They resist Dark type moves and take normal damage from Ice type moves. However, if you’re facing off against a Hariyama with Thick Fat or a Fighting type that resists Ice types attack like Lucario or Blaziken, then it’d be best to switch out into something else.

If you decide to get a Sneasel and you want to evolve it, you will need to level it up during the night with a Razor Claw. Razor Claws can be found on Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o about 5% of the time, and on Kommo-o about 50% of the time.
